Which Parts of the Body Can Be Treated?

Excess hair is a function of ageing and some people are more subject to it than others.

Most parts of the body are suitable. Common areas are: face, upper lip, chin, chest, back shoulders, stomach, underarm, legs arms and bikini.

While the face is able to be treated there is a limit as to how close to the eyes the laser can be used. When the area around the eyes is being treated you will be asked to wear protective goggles.

How Does the CoolGlide Laser Work?

The CoolGlide (1064 Nd:YAG) is the first laser cleared for permanent hair reduction in all skin types and is endorsed by physicians worldwide. It treats all skin types (I-VI) and also provides the most efficient method of cooling for optimal skin protection and comfort.

The laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser heats up the hair and significantly impedes the follicles ability to re-grow.

This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously and so is appropriate for treating even the larger areas of the body such as the legs and the back. Both areas can be treated quickly and effectively.

An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling hand piece allows us to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse, while directing the laser energy to the hair root.

The combination of this cooling method and other key parameters allows for safe and effective treatment in all skin types, including ethnic and tanned skin.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Several treatments are required because of the growth cycle of hair.

When hair is in the first stage (anagen) of hair growth is when the laser works optimally as the melanin/pigment is at its highest levels.

Laser Hair Removal Treatments need to be approximately 6 weeks apart and, on average, 3-6 treatments are required for optimal results.

Results from the US show that 60% of hair can be reduced after just 2 treatments.

1. Active Growth Phase (Anagen Phase).
   During this phase, the hair root contains the pigment melanin.  Hairs in this phase are most affected by treatment.
   
2. Transitional Phase (Catagen Phase)
   This phase lasts about two weeks, during which the hair stops growing and contains less pigment.
   
3. Resting Phase (Telogen Phase)
   At the end of a period of approximately 6 weeks the hair falls out spontaneously and a new phase of growth begins.
