Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Are you wondering about laser hair removal - the type of laser, whether it is a safe treatment, how the laser works. Scroll below for the answers to frequently asked questions.

What Type of Laser is used?

The CUTERA XEO platform we use provides us with the most versatile laser and light technologies on the market. It is used by reputable cosmetics surgeons and practitioners from around the world and enables us to tailor the treatments to your skin type to deliver the most effective treatment with the least amount of exposure.

The Cool Glide Laser is the first laser cleared for permanent hair reduction in all skin types and is endorsed by physicians worldwide.

How does the laser work?

The laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light, which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just enough to damage the hair follicle without causing damage to the surrounding skin. The  result is safe and effective hair removal.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Clients describe the experience varying from a tingling sensation to a sensation not unlike “the flick of an elastic band against your skin”. Most clients tolerate the procedure well. As the laser intensity is increased for more effective hair removal, it may become more uncomfortable, cooling pads are used to minimize any discomfort. Topical anaesthetic cream is available.

Is it permanent?

Of all the methods available to date, the literature would suggest this laser is the most effective at permanent or long-term hair removal. It is most successful on darker and coarse hair.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

The laser is effective on hair follicles that are in the active growth phase. Only a percentage of hair follicles are in the growth phase at one time. For this reason, several treatments are required, at approximately 6 weeks apart. On average 4-6 treatments are required for optimal results.

What can you expect following your treatment?

The appearance of the treated area immediately after the laser session will vary from client to client, depending on the extent of treatment, energy setting of the laser machine and your skin type. It is normal to experience some redness and some mild swelling, which disappears in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away. At high energy settings, some crusting of the skin may appear temporarily. You will have a test patch to ascertain the most effective but safe treatment level.

How much will it cost?

During your initial consultation, the area/s you wish to treat will be assessed and you will be given an exact costing. The cost are based on regions treated and the treatment time.  You will find laser hair removal cost effective compared to other methods such as waxing or electrolysis, seeing results far more quickly and more permanent.

What areas can be treated?

Any area that has hair growing of an appropriate colour can be treated. Common areas are; face, upper lip, chin, underarms, arms, legs, bikini line, chest, back, shoulders and stomach. You may wish to discuss other treatment area with the staff.

How long does the treatment take?

Most areas can be treated in 20-60 minutes. However, large body areas such as leg or backs may take up to 90 minutes per session.
